EXHIBITION LIST

A. TITLE

Here are some notes & tips I found helpful when naming your work! (Note that these are subjective so feel free to not follow them)

1. Keep it short

  • Don’t make your titles lengthy or complicated, it makes them easy to remember and understand

  • Shorter is generally better. Let the art do the talking.

2. Allude to the Concept

  • Naming your works can help add to the concept of your work so spend some time on it

  • It can be symbolic that helps add to the intention/idea of your work

3. Start with Focal Point of work

  • This will usually be most the obvious elements of the piece.

  • Titling your artwork after the focal point will help others to understand your artwork better, especially if your piece is an abstract.

4. Get others involved in the naming process

  • You can ask others for help naming your artwork or get their impressions on a title you are considering.

  • Getting feedback from others will help you choose just the right name for your work

Series Work :

  • For multiple pieces in a series of works, you can name them sequentially.

    • Eg. Series of snow paintings : titled “Snow #1”, “Snow #2”, and “Snow #3”

  • Or you can give them all similar names

    • Eg. Campbell Soup series : Tomato Campbell Soup, Pumpkin Campbell Soup, Mushroom Campbell Soup

Title in a Different Language

  • If you have work titles in a different language, have the translation of it in a bracket on the side

    • Eg. เพื่อนไทย (Thai Friend)

B. SIZE/DURATION

If you have works where the dimensions are not as straightforward, you can include Dimension Variable

Installation Works

  • If your work is for example a hanging work with many pieces, you can give the dimension as : Dimensions Variable (Each piece is 10cm x 14.5cm)

Projection Work

  • Include size of your projected image on the wall

Media Work

  • Dimensions Variable (Displayed on Ipad/Macbook etc.)

  • Include duration of it

    • If it's a GIF : State duration of it (eg. 30s played in a loop)

C. MEDIUM

Try to be as detailed & specific as you can

  • Eg. Ceramics : White Raku/Pocelein

  • Eg. Film photographic print on tracing paper

Note that the 500 Characters in your Exhibition Text may not be able to cover the entirety of your work, so use this column to add description to your work

D. EXHIBITION TEXT

500 Characters (max per work)                                 Recommended : 480-500

Although, Exhibition Text seems really fast and easy to write due to it being just 500 characters. However, I feel that is exactly what actually makes it hard and pretty time consuming.

In Unity there is Strength reconstructs Thailand’s national flower, Ratchaphruek, comprising of dense clusters of petals that bloom despite harsh conditions. Each petal is engraved with portraits of people in Golden Mile, a Thai enclave. The flower is a metaphor for strength in a community, similar to how the Thai diaspora assimilate into Singapore by building a community. Additionally, the hanging installation allude to the migrants seen as not rooted to a place as they seem to float around.
